The goal of meditation is not to control your thoughts, it’s to stop letting them control you.
I would say meditation propelled my spiritual and personal journey. The more I used meditation and reaped its transformative benefits, I knew that I had to implement this into my daily activity. I gained so much serenity and clarity from this practice.
Not all meditation is the same, so no need to get discouraged if you sit quietly for five minutes and can’t focus. Maybe you want to try a guided meditation if you cant concentrate on your awareness. Maybe you have a vivid imagination, so a visual meditation in your mind would better for you. Or maybe prayer works best for you. Whatever you choose you are in a peaceful trans that allows you to be mindful of your own thoughts. Observe those thoughts, do not push them away. When we allow our thoughts to be, we will be. And when you let things be, you have just surrendered and let go of what doesn’t serve you.
When I am in meditation I am not only focusing on my thoughts but how those thoughts make me feel. What emotions are present and detaching enough to decipher if they are at a low or high vibration. There could be situations, people or decisions in my current life that arise and sometimes I need to observe without attachment. Attachment is not love, and you should make every decision with love.
You can incorporate mediation easily into your life. Start a morning routine meditating what you want for your day ahead. Before you go to bed at night reflect on your day with meditation, or if you need it halfway through your day with breathing technics you can do that too. Before I start whichever meditation I’m doing, I like to wind down with deep breathing. Taking 10 deep breaths through your nose and out through your mouth. This can alter your mood in a mind-blowing way. Do this as you are closing down your eyes and reaching a point of total relaxation. Once you have captured a comfortable breathing pattern you can keep a steady breath in and out through your nose. You will feel completely at ease and content.
During a quiet mindful meditation, you can use a mantra/ affirmation or concentrate on your breath. I have even used counting numbers in my meditation to help completely clear my mind.
Meditation is not just for relaxing, its primary purpose is to develop the capacity to respond skillfully and gracefully through life’s difficulties as well as its joys, as said by Shyalpa Tenzin Rinpoche. Your mind is the most powerful muscle in your body, take care of it. The more you meditate the more you will realize its effects in your everyday life. I feel like it has allowed me to think clearer and more rational about things. When I need answers to a specific situation I go into meditation for the answers. I know some of the most powerful business moguls of this generation meditation before every major business decision. This is because you are decluttering your mind on a daily basis, making room for your thoughts to flow with ease. The certainty is there! There is no seconding guessing because mediation is a powerful intuition building tool.
Now that you know some of the powerful effects meditation can bring, I will create other blogs with more information on demonstrating these practices.
